Apple iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1: New AI Features and Siri Updates on Select iPhones
Apple has released iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1, introducing innovative Apple Intelligence features and updates like Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and ChatGPT-integrated Siri. Available since November 6, the beta version is open to developers and beta testers on iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone 16 models. However, all iPhones get a preview of upcoming Mail and Find My enhancements. Here’s what’s new:
Key Features in iOS 18.2 Public Beta 1
- Genmoji: With this AI-driven emoji creator, users can describe a desired emoji, and their iPhone will generate new options based on those details. Adding these Genmojis to your keyboard brings a unique touch to your chats.
- Visual Intelligence: Apple’s new answer to Google Lens, this feature uses AI to identify objects, translate text, and scan QR codes. For now, it’s available on iPhone 16 models, allowing users to access it with a single press of the new camera control button.
- Image Playground: This creative tool lets users generate AI-based images through prompts in the standalone app or Messages. It also allows the inclusion of personal photos, adding a new dimension to visual expression.
- Siri and ChatGPT Integration: iOS 18.2 introduces a “glowing” Siri interface, enhanced by ChatGPT capabilities. Users can now use Siri with ChatGPT to perform detailed queries or get custom responses. Apple reminds users to verify critical information generated by ChatGPT responses.
- Upgrades to Mail: Mail now sorts emails into categories, similar to Gmail, to better organize important messages from ads and promotions. However, users can toggle back to the original view as needed.
- Find My Enhancements: Share lost item locations or display contact information, making it easier for others to return lost items to you.
While iOS 18.2’s final release date remains unconfirmed, these beta features mark a new era of personalized and AI-powered experiences for Apple users.
